  • Job Description

    The Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for coordinating financial deliverables within Finance, internal business operations and other Honda companies. The Analyst will perform analysis, assist with the consolidation and reporting of monthly financial results and research complex accounting topics and recommend application within the company.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Accounting

    • Co-ordinate the month-end close process with internal business owners, parent and affiliate companies to ensure monthly deliverables are submitted by deadlines and questions are addressed
    • Receive, review and process monthly accruals and other journal entries from business owners. Produce solo and consolidated Canadian Financial Statements
    • Review and analyze various line items on the financial statements and/or perform analysis of operational results
    • Distribute operating expense reports to business owners and coordinate responses. Develop an understanding of business activities to determine reasonability and provide explanations for variances to plan
    • Responsible for administration of account reconciliation process as well as preparing reconciliations for various accounts
    • Record financial activity in both IFRS and US GAAP ledgers
    • Stay current on new and proposed accounting standards and assess impact to the company
    • Develop IFRS / US GAAP position papers, policy implementation and compliance for new accounting standards and/or new business activities
    • Cross-functional work with other groups and business operation owners to identify potential accounting issues and recommend solutions
    • Respond to inquiries from internal and external auditors
    • Operate within a SOX environment and maintain operational controls and documentation
    • Support financial and SOX compliance audits
    • Be point of contact for inquiries regarding period end close, financial statements and accounting standards
    • Participate in accounting and system projects as assigned
    • Undertake other tasks as assigned

      QUALIFICATIONS:

    • University-level education, accounting, or business degree preferred
    • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, or CA)
    • 5+ Years of progressive Financial Reporting and Accounting Standards related experience
    • Experience with an ERP system required (SAP experience would be an asset)
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with ability to build collaborative relationships
    • Attention to detail is essential with focus on high quality of deliverables
    • Problem solving and analytical skills, interest in research
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently under pressure within strict deadlines
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Experience with large companies or wholesale automotive industry or Big 4 accounting firms would be an asset
    • In depth knowledge of accounting standards, both US GAAP and IFRS
